David Hahn was born the sixth child out of nine. He has five brothers and three sisters, 25 nieces and nephews, and nine great-nieces and nephews (but he likes to say all of his nieces and nephews are great). He tried his hand at college a few times, including a semester at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, as well as discerning a vocation with the Benedictine Marmion Abbey in Aurora, Illinois, but ultimately, neither of these places was where he felt God wanted him. His calling was with the earth and fields, working landscaping and farming his whole life.
In addition, David has always had a deep faith brought on by his parents and tight-knit family. When he was in eighth grade, his Father gave him Thomas à Kempis’ book The Imitation of Christ, which lit the fire for his spiritual journey. Throughout his life has attended conferences and engaged in much reading about the Faith, enjoying, in particular, The Spiritual Life, as well as being active in Catholic groups, including Cursillo. Beginning in his early 20s, David developed a deep devotion to the Eucharist and Our Blessed Mother. He made it a practice to spend an hour with the Lord in Eucharist Adoration every day and to pray the rosary daily. It is there that Dave feels one can hear that soft whisper of God’s voice. He traveled to Mexico City in 2003 on a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He also traveled to Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where six children have claimed to have had apparitions of the Blessed Mother. Next to spending time with God, the most important thing for David is spending time with his family and friends.
He is the author of Love’s Mystery: A Mystical Theology of the Body according to St. John Paul II and St. John of the Cross, the second edition of which was published by Full Quiver Publishing this fall.
